Why RateMyRehab Exists

Individuals who struggle with addiction and/or mental health-related concerns deserve access to quality treatment that can not only meet their needs but also assist them in their healing journey. One of the hardest choices people have to make when beginning their recovery of journey is deciding who to put their faith in. For those who have worked in the treatment industry, we know all too well that it is a substantially more complex decision than the general public knows. Unfortunately, the general public’s difficulty in distinguishing a “good” facility from a “bad” facility is often by design.

The Problem

While there are many ways people find/choose a treatment center, there is a common story that we in the industry have heard/seen repeatedly. Individuals who struggle with addiction/mental health, or their loved ones, use a search engine and type in something like “addiction treatment near me”, only to be inundated with dozens of choices. At first glance, this is a good thing. With multiple options to choose from, clients feel like they have a fair amount of control in deciding where they would like to go and what program is best for them. That’s when the stark reality sets in….all the websites APPEAR immaculate and extremely professional, all of the treatment centers SOUND competent and proficient in addressing addiction/mental health, all the staff SEEM to have fancy titles with sets of letters after their name, and all the facilities APPEAR to be viable choices. THE WORST PART, ALL the treatment centers seem to have 4.5+ stars on platforms like Google and Yelp. making it virtually impossible to make an informed decision on which treatment center to go to. This leaves only one logical step: pick a treatment center based on their curated photos in a similar fashion individuals choose an Airbnb, and then call some of these treatment centers to speak with a staff member. Potential clients and their loved ones are then connected with an admissions representative, who, to be fair, is a salesman. Their job is to “sell” the program, and unfortunately, this often happens at the expense of truth. After the client commits to said treatment center, goes through the intake process, and spends their first 1-3 days in the program, it becomes painfully apparent that things are not what they were originally made out to be. Leaving the client in a precarious situation of either leaving treatment early or sticking it out and making the most of everything.

CLIENTS SHOULDN’T NEED TO PLAY DETECTIVE, THEY SHOULDN’T NEED TO ROLL THE DICE AND HOPE THINGS ARE AS ADVERTISED. CLIENT SHOULD KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THEY ARE WALKING INTO AND MAKE AN INFORMED DECISION ON THE PROS/CONS OF EACH FACILITY!
